Whether it is firing up the grill or planning a few more camping trips, summers are meant to be savored. But summer always seems to go by so quickly. The good news there are still so many great ways to spend your summer in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, here are two of my personal favorites.

You + Chefs + Giant Grill = The Alley at The Bite of Seattle

July 17-19

Once again Chef Jason Wilson (of Millers Guild and Crush) is hosting the Alley at the Groupon Bite of Seattle. Not only is this a great chance for you to sample from some of Seattle’s top restaurants, but all the proceeds from the Alley go to Food Lifeline. But in order to make this event a huge success, we need you to sign up and volunteer. Volunteers help greet guests, take tickets, pass out plates, bus tables, assist in the food booths, and more. Shifts last for 5 hours each and are open to volunteers 16 years and older. Sign up today.

Fun fact: Chef Jason Wilson is bringing in over 2 tons of beef from ranches all over Washington just for this event!

You + Wacky Croquet + Food from Tom Douglas Restaurants = Tom Douglas Lawn Party and Croquet Tournament

August 9

Do you long for the chance to see croquet played the way it was always meant to be (outside, in the sun, with wacky themed courses?) In its 4th year, this event benefits Food Lifeline and features Dahlia Lounge food tents, cocktail & beer garden, music and a team costume contest. But this is where you come in; we need your help to keep this event running smoothly. Volunteers will greet guests, assist in scoring matches, reset courses, bus tables, assist in the Food Lifeline booth, and provide breaks to fellow volunteers. Event lasts for 4.5 hours and is open to volunteers 21 & older. Sign up today.

Interested in other ways you can give back?

Warehouse volunteering continues all summer long and weekdays are our biggest need. Or if behind the scenes is more your jam, there are lots of ways to help out in the office or with event prep.

Thank you to all the many volunteers who make it possible for us to rescue food, feed hungry people and repeat every single day.
