“It’s incredible to see this kind of turnout,” says Nate Pedigo, Grant Writer at Food Lifeline, “we couldn’t have had an event this big at our old place!”
The Food Lifeline staff has worked tirelessly to create a truly memorable night for all. VIP guests are treated to delicious catered food from the renowned ‘Chef in the Hat’, Thierry Rautureau, who served up his special brand of excellence in culinary delights.
Guests also have the option of milling about outside in front of the new building, where four of Seattle’s pre-eminent food trucks serve up delicacies from syrupy Navajo fry bread to delectable hand made ice cream sandwiches.
Inside the sprawling Hunger Solution Center, party goers have the opportunity to understand the finer details of Food Lifeline’s work. Guests take part in guided tours with Food Lifeline staff, who show off the pristine warehouse, one of two that amounts to 190,000 square feet of space, allowing for the distribution of up to 100 million pounds per year.
The mood is one generally of awe as guests marvel at the enormity of the new space. The more adventurous attendees even take a brisk walk through the facilities thirty six degree refrigeration unit, which at 17,000 square feet is nearly as large as the entirety of Food Lifeline’s former Shoreline facility.
“Thank you so much for letting us share this night with you, what you guys are doing here, your mission, it’s a wonderful thing”, mentions one guest as he strides through the shining warehouse.
After working up a thirst, guests indulge in the fine craft beers of Georgetown brewery, while enjoying the musical stylings of King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg’s band the Approximations. Other elected representatives, including 34th District State Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon, and 34th District State Senator Sharon Nelson also make appearances – with Sen. Nelson giving a heartfelt speech about the need to “stamp out hunger in our communities”.
Later in the evening, Food Lifeline CEO Linda Nageotte performs the honor of the ribbon cutting, as the crowd erupts in applause.
“This is an exciting moment for me, for you, and for our community!” Exclaims Linda as she cuts the ribbon.
