Hunger Heroes Come In All Sizes

While Eli may be only 9 years old, he’s already making a huge difference in the lives of people in need. Eli’s love for biking goes way back, starting when he was just 4 years old and biking 12 laps around a loop in his neighborhood park in Seattle. But even from the start, Eli used his biking to ask his friends and neighbors to make pledges of support for charities. This year for his 6th Annual Bike-a-thon, Eli chose Food Lifeline as his charity and biked a total of 15 miles! Eli enjoys biking and inspiring other people to do good.

Here is his pledge letter for his ride this summer:

What first inspired Eli to help hungry people?

“I think everyone should have enough to eat. Businesses that sell food, like grocery stores, should donate every week a portion of what they make to help hungry people, either in cash or in actual food. It was also fun to volunteer at Food Lifeline with my family, my school, and my friends.”

Eli’s 6th Annual Bike-a-thon was a huge success, raising $1,891 in donations from friends and family. And thanks to a summer match from Fred Meyer, Eli’s efforts will help provide over 18,000 meals for people across Western Washington.

Want to join Eli’s efforts in making a difference?

Here is Eli’s advice about why you should support Food Lifeline:

“Food Lifeline is a fun place to volunteer. They keep you busy getting stuff done, and the conveyer belt makes it extra fun! It’s a good place to donate money because even a small contribution is able to help a lot of people since a dollar provides 5 meals.”
