Corporate Donor of the Month – BlackRock

By August 19, 2021No Comments

Food Lifeline is proud to recognize BlackRock as our Corporate Donor of the Month for August 2021!

BlackRock, a financial planning & investment management firm, truly embodies what it means to be a partner in our work to end hunger.  Through their social impact work, they are helping people build stability today for a more resilient future.

Our journey together started six years ago when the Seattle office, through their employee-led Gives committee, started volunteering with us in 2016.  In 2017, their engagement expanded by joining Food Frenzy, our friendly competition in which businesses compete against each other to donate time, food and funds to help address summer hunger in our communities. In addition to volunteering, BlackRock and its employees supported our work financially through employee nominated grants as well as matching funds for volunteer hours and employee donations.

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, BlackRock committed $50 million to relief and recovery efforts, awarding Food Lifeline $250,000 in March 2020 to assist with our COVID-19 response.  As the pandemic continued to impact our region, especially our Indigenous populations, immigrant and refugee communities, BlackRock stepped up again with another $100,000 in July 2021.

To date, BlackRock employees have amassed 400 hours sorting and repacking food in the Hunger Solution Center, undeterred by the pandemic, they have competed in Food Frenzy the last 5 years, and have donated nearly $400,000.

Finally, as Food Lifeline works to expand our DEI work, including hiring, board representation and addressing the inequities within our BIPOC communities, BlackRock is a leader in this work through their board and leadership diversity, hiring practices and support of their many employee led affinity groups, making them #1 on Refinitiv’s 2020 top 100 most diverse and inclusive organizations globally.

“Food Lifeline is an important link in our community and I value their mission.  I am very proud to champion Food Frenzy at work and to engage my colleagues in supporting those who experience food insecurity in Western Washington.” – Jennifer MacDougal, Analyst

On behalf of the communities we serve, our board and staff, thank you BlackRock for sharing in our commitment to a world where everyone is safe, healthy, and cared for.
