A Special Holiday Volunteer Opportunity

By December 8, 2015July 16th, 2018No Comments

The holiday season is upon us! It’s a time when Food Lifeline staff and volunteers take a moment to reflect on what we have in our lives and how we can make a difference in the lives of our hungry neighbors. This December, there’s room for one more in the Food Lifeline trucks. We have special volunteer opportunities to ride along with our amazing drivers like Efren Torres.

Meet Efren, he’s been driving for Food Lifeline for 10 years. Every day, he picks up 900 to 1,200 pounds of delicious food – produce, dairy products, dry goods, bakery items, and prepared items – that would have otherwise ended in landfills. Efren loves creating friendships and connections in the community through his delivery routes with donors and community partners. Through Efren, food donors like Albertsons Grocery Stores bring soul nourishing food to hungry people at community organizations like LifeWire, a domestic violence support program.

Samantha, Efren’s daughter, volunteers every third Saturday and wrote about her great experiences:

Ride-along volunteers help drivers pick up, sort, and deliver food donations to community partners.
