By September 13, 2018No Comments

Food Lifeline’s annual Dress Down Hunger event is right around the corner and each year at this event, we highlight a few of the very special people and organizations who go above and beyond in fulfilling their roles in the movement to end hunger. This year we are thrilled to honor Congresswoman Suzan DelBene, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority – Upsilon Omega Chapter, and Kaiser Permanente with the 2018 Ending Hunger Awards.

“Food Lifeline gives us a way to not only help those who are hungry, but to help other young women become positive citizens.” – Jamila Taylor, Vice President, Upsilon Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority

Alpha Kappa Alpha in the Hunger Solution Center LobbyAlpha Kappa Alpha Sorority has dedicated countless hours over generations to helping end hunger in our community. This incredible group of women has a long history of giving their time to Food Lifeline and we are pleased to present them with the 2018 Outstanding Volunteer Award.

This year, the Tom Haley Memorial Award goes to Congresswoman Suzan DelBene. DelBene is an unsung hero in the anti-hunger work in Washington State. She is solely responsible for creating the SNAP Employment & Training program, which helps SNAP recipients learn and use job training skills to find work and improve household stability. She is also a strong supporter of Food Lifeline and champions the hunger-relief efforts we advocate for in Congress. Suzan DelBene giving a speech

Food Lifeline and Sea Mar Community Health Centers have been partnering for the last year on the Healthcare Initiative – a program which provides fresh produce for low income healthcare clients who struggle with type 2 diabetes to help them manage their illness.

Kaiser Permanente LogoKaiser Permanente is now an integral supporter of the Healthcare Initiative and is helping to take the program to the next level by refining data collection and improving the evaluation process. They’re hope is to prove that food heals – that’s why Kaiser Permanente is our Ending Hunger Award Winner for Corporate Partner of the Year.

We have so much appreciation for Suzan Delbene, Alpha Kappa Alpha, and Kaiser Permanente’s unwavering commitment of to fighting hunger and are proud to present them each with a well-deserved Ending Hunger Award!
