Thank you for taking action last week to tell the Senate no more cuts to SNAP! You stood up for the over 1 million Washingtonians who rely on SNAP to provide food for their families.

Haven’t signed the petition yet? There’s still time to add your name!

National Call-In Day to Protect Food Stamps

Despite your incredible advocacy, the Senate proposed deep cuts to the safety net that could total more than $1 trillion. The House also proposed cuts and voted to block grant the SNAP program.

Why is block granting bad?

It could reduce funding and cut benefits for those struggling with hunger. Want more details about why this would be bad for SNAP? Check out Block Grants 101 from Bread for the World.

Please join us tomorrow, Tuesday March 24th, for a national call-in day to tell Congress enough is enough! Calling is easy. Here’s how:

  • Dial the Feeding America toll free number, (888) 398-8702, and enter your zip code when prompted.
  • Once connected, state you are a constituent, give your name and the town you are calling from.
  • Let them know you are calling about the budget and simply say:

As your constituent, I am calling to ask you to vote against any efforts to cut or block-grant hunger-relief programs like SNAP. SNAP benefits have already been cut twice in the last two years, resulting in significant losses in benefits for those who need them most. Please find a more responsible way to balance the budget.

Be sure to dial back in to speak with both of your senators and your representative. Nervous about talking to someone directly? Call after hours and leave a message!
