Serving Up Sustainability

Wasting food bothers all of us, but especially the chefs with Bon Appétit Management Company, our 2014 Corporate Food Donor Award recipient.

As a part of our annual Ending Hunger Awards, we seek to recognize a food donor who goes above and beyond in their support of Food Lifeline. This year we are proud to honor Bon Appétit for their work with our Seattle’s Table program and their emphasis on sustainability.

Bon Appétit Named Outstanding Food Donor

Wasting food bothers all of us, but especially the chefs with Bon Appétit Management Company. In their restaurants, chefs use fresh ingredients sourced directly from local farms to create delicious food every day. So nothing is more disheartening than having to throw away perfectly good food at the end of the night.

“Our many Seattle-area chefs and managers love partnering with Food Lifeline because it lets them address the heartbreaking issue of hunger in our community while also reducing the amount of food wasted in our cafés,” said Brian Wilbur, Bon Appétit regional director.

Known throughout the food industry for their keen interest in sustainable food, Bon Appétit has donated the equivalent of over 105,000 meals since their first food donation in 2009. But their passion for stopping food waste doesn’t end here. Since joining our Seattle’s Table program, Bon Appétit created a food recovery guide designed to make sure everyone involved in their company understands both the issue of hunger and the steps we can take to stop it.

Bon Appétit also champions food recovery issues at a national level. In partnership with the Food Recovery Network, Bon Appétit helped to create an educational video to demonstrate how programs like Seattle’s Table find homes for food that would otherwise go to waste.

Bon Appétit’s commitment for sustainability and passion for stopping hunger is why we are honored to name them our 2014 Outstanding Food Donor.
