Ready for Food Frenzy!

Every summer for the past 28 years, community-minded companies in Western Washington have taken up the cause of hunger relief by participating in Food Lifeline’s annual Food Frenzy.

Food Frenzy is a creative competition between local businesses to raise funds, food and volunteer with Food Lifeline. It’s a two-week campaign, this year between July 14-28, where companies create their own fundraising and team building activities.

Sweeney Conrad, P.S. is one company that’s setting a great example for others. The CPA firm is going on 15 years as a participant in Food Frenzy, and this year, Nina Dang is the team’s fearless leader.

Nina is motivated by a strong desire to help others, stemming from personal experience as a child. She remembers being on the free lunch program at school in elementary and middle school. She says while her parents could put food on the table at home, there was never anything extra.

“I understand when parents don’t have the money to feed their kids. I get it,” she says. “[But kids] can’t function when they’re hungry – food is a necessity.”

Nina’s well aware that hunger doesn’t go away in the summer and that it’s the time of year when so many local kids lose access to the food they need. She loves working with her colleagues toward a solution through Food Lifeline.

Like in years past, the Sweeney Conrad team will spend time volunteering at Food Lifeline’s Hunger Solution Center during both weeks of Food Frenzy. Plus, they’ll come back as a team-building activity at other times of year. Nina says they’ve learned that volunteering isn’t just good for the community, but it’s good for company morale.

No matter who you are or where you work, Nina has strong words of encouragement…

Do everything you can, to help as many people as you can, with whatever resources you have,” she says.

We couldn’t agree more with her sentiment and are so grateful for all those companies and individuals who choose to give back through Food Frenzy.
