Kids Cafe Expands to Meet Summer Need

As summer rapidly approaches, many families are signing up for camp, planning vacations, and figuring out how to balance the next three months. But for some families there is an additional struggle during the summer. In Washington State, 46% of students qualify for free or reduce price breakfasts and lunches. This means many families need to figure out how to replace those additional two meals every day during the summer.

Fortunately this is where Food Lifeline’s Kids Cafe program can help fill the gap. As a part of the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), Kids Cafe will provide free snacks and meals to local children at 11 sites across Snohomish, King, Island and Skagit Counties this summer. Throughout the summer, free meals, snacks and activities will be provided at the following locations:

Island County

Langley

Langley Park at 2nd and Anthes
Monday through Friday from June 16 through August 29
Closed July 4
Lunch: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
In partnership with Good Cheer Food Bank and Thrift Stores

Oak Harbor

Flintstone Park at SE Dock Street
Monday through Saturday from June 7 through September 3rd
Open July 4 and Labor Day
Lunch: Noon to 1:30 p.m.
In partnership with SPIN Café

King County

Eastside Terrace

In addition, free learning activities will be available for Skagit County children throughout the summer at the following locations in Anacortes:

  • Mondays: 511 T AVE from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
  • Tuesdays: 1312 O Ave from 12:45 to 2:15 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: 809 29th Street from noon to 1:30 p.m.
  • Thursdays: 903 22nd Street from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
