Instacart Joins Food Lifeline in Delivering the Return of Stamp Out Hunger

The National Association of Letter Carriers is bringing back Stamp Out Hunger!

The pandemic shut down the country’s largest one day food drive for the past two years, but on May 14, the event returns. To mark the occasion, Food Lifeline is teaming up with Instacart to help stock the shelves of food banks across Western Washington. Instacart is the presenting sponsor of Food Lifeline’s 2022 Stamp Out Hunger event, providing financial support and a team of volunteers to help round up donations.

Instacart knows a thing or two about delivering food. The company is a leading retail-enablement platform that helps grocers and other retailers across North America connect with their customers online and offline. Today, more than 600,000 Instacart shoppers deliver from more than 70,000 grocers and retailers across 5,500 cities in the U.S. and Canada.

Instacart’s mission aligns very closely with the mission of Food Lifeline.

Casey Aden-Wansbury, Vice President of Policy & Government Affairs at Instacart

“Our mission is to create a world where everyone has access to food”, says Instacart VP of Policy & Government Affairs Casey Aden-Wansbury. “Transportation should never serve as a barrier to fresh food and pantry staples, and we are committed to helping bridge the gap for millions of individuals and families across the country”.

Instacart is working to achieve this by providing access to food to those who lack transportation and delivering to areas that are designated as “food deserts”. A food desert is an urban or rural area in which it is difficult to buy affordable or good-quality fresh food, and where access to grocery stores is often miles away. This is a viable long-term solution for communities that lack access to a grocery store. The company also helps retailers accept EBT SNAP payments, which in turn helps struggling families access healthy, nutritious foods. Nationally, Instacart also works with Feeding America to help develop programs that address hunger, while providing funds that have created millions of meals.

According to Aden-Wansbury, partnering with Food Lifeline on Stamp Out Hunger is part of Instacart’s long-term commitment to effect positive change in communities across Western Washington.

“Food Lifeline is a wonderful asset to the community and provides an important piece of the puzzle by addressing the root causes of food insecurity.”

Food Lifeline would like to offer a huge thank you to Instacart and its partners for helping prove that hunger doesn’t have to happen.

If you would like to donate food for Stamp Out Hunger, keep an eye out for a blue bag your letter carrier will leave in your mailbox a few days before the event. Simply fill the bag with groceries and leave it at your mailbox. Your letter carrier will make sure your donation gets to Food Lifeline, providing much needed food for 350 food banks, shelters, and meal programs across Western Washington. Stamp Out Hunger is Saturday, May 14, 2022.
