Instacart is back for Stamp Out Hunger!

Stamp Out Hunger, the nation’s largest annual food drive, takes place on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Last year we collected 135,526 lbs of food – the equivalent of 112,938 meals – from Stamp Out Hunger.

Food Lifeline is again teaming up with Instacart to help stock the shelves of food banks across Western Washington. This is Instacart’s third year as the presenting sponsor of Food Lifeline’s 2024 Stamp Out Hunger event, providing financial support and a team of volunteers to help round up donations.

Instacart knows a thing or two about delivering food. The company is the leading grocery technology company in North America, helping grocers and other retailers across North America connect with their customers online and offline. Today, more than 600,000 Instacart shoppers deliver from more than 85,000 grocers and retailers across the U.S. and Canada.

Instacart believes everyone should have access to nutritious food and more time to enjoy it together. That is why they launched Instacart Health, to help more people access the food they need to live healthier lives. This work aligns very closely with the mission of Food Lifeline.

Casey Aden-Wansbury, Vice President of Policy & Government Affairs at Instacart

Earlier this year, they provided $15,000 in pass through funding to Fairchild AFB for their on base food pantry to support members of the military and their families.

Instacart has expanded online SNAP acceptance to reach more than 96% of SNAP households nationwide. They now offer online SNAP acceptance from more than 170 retail banners spanning more than 14,000 stores in all 50 states and Washington D.C. In Washington, that’s more than 150 stores from nearly 10 retail banners. They’re also working to help raise awareness of the new increased Summer EBT for kids, and helping families get enrolled for this additional benefit.

At Instacart, we believe everyone should have access to nutritious food, and we are eager to tackle the barriers that keep people from a nutritious meal,” said Instacart VP of Policy & Government Affairs Casey Aden-Wansbury. “Every day, Instacart helps millions of people access the food and essentials they need from retailers they trust. That’s why we are proud to continue to partner with Food Lifeline, which provides an important piece of the puzzle to addressing the root causes of food insecurity.”

That’s why Instacart focuses on providing access to nutritious food, including those who lack transportation and delivering to areas where it is difficult to buy affordable or good-quality fresh food and where access to grocery stores is often miles away. This is a viable long-term solution for communities lacking grocery store access. Nationally, Instacart also works with Feeding America to help develop programs that address hunger while providing funds that have created millions of meals, including giving you the opportunity to donate to your community food bank through their Community Carts program.

According to Aden-Wansbury, partnering with Food Lifeline on Stamp Out Hunger is part of Instacart’s long-term commitment to effecting positive change in communities across Western Washington.

“Food Lifeline is a wonderful asset to the community and provides an important piece of the puzzle by addressing the root causes of food insecurity.”

Food Lifeline would like to offer a huge thank you to Instacart and its partners for helping prove that hunger doesn’t have to happen.

If you would like to donate food for Stamp Out Hunger, keep an eye out for a blue bag your letter carrier will leave in your mailbox a few days before the event. Simply fill the bag with groceries and leave it at your mailbox. Your letter carrier will make sure your donation gets to Food Lifeline, providing much-needed food for the more than 300 food distribution locations serves across Western Washington. Stamp Out Hunger is Saturday, May 11, 2024.
