Last night the Washington Legislature passed a final budget agreement and has sent it off to Governor Inslee to sign just in time to avoid a government shut down. While this is good news in itself, the even better news is that funding was included for all of the budget requests we’ve talked about this year!
- Continuing $800,000 per year in additional funds for food banks
- Fully funding State Food Assistance at 100% of the SNAP benefit level
- 9% restoration to the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) grant
- Continuing $200,000 for Farmers Market Nutrition Program
This wouldn’t have been possible without you!
Through the work of advocates across the state sending emails and making phone calls, letters to the editor in local papers, and food bank staff who stayed late in Olympia for last minute budget hearings – it would not have been possible without all of you.
Now we have one final message for you to send, one of thanks. We know that legislators are tired and ready to go home, but let’s send them off with a big thank you on behalf of those in our communities continuing to struggle to put food on the table.
