Celebrate National Dairy Month

By June 10, 2014July 16th, 2018No Comments

What’s better that a month that celebrates milk, cheese and all things dairy? Not much in our mind. Dairy products are often the most requested items at food banks, but also frequently the least donated. Plus during the summer, many families struggle to replace the meals for their kids typically provided by the school.

But fortunately dairy farmers across Washington and Oregon and working to change that through the Northwest Farmers Fighting Hunger food drive. This food and fund drive kicked off with a special event in Olympia and there are special activities taking place across Western Washington all month long.

Get Involved

Stop by these events to donate food and funds and meet the farmers involved in this food drive:

  • June 13th, Ballard Fred Meyer, Seattle
  • June 20th, Richland Fred Meyer, Tri Cities
  • June 27th, Tumwater Fred Meyer, Olympia

Thank you National Dairy Council

Also June is getting even better thanks to the National Dairy Council and their generous $10,000 grant. The grant will help fund staff salaries to increase food sourcing for dairy products. This means our partner food banks will have an easier time, getting the nutritious food they need to make sure kids don’t go hungry this summer.
