Thanks To You We Keep Growing
With your help, many of our programs are growing. Here is a quick overview of how your support will reach more hungry neighbors across Western Washington.
SPRING BRINGS NEW KIDS CAFE SITES
With your help, the Kids Cafe program is growing. This spring we are launching new sites across Western Washington. By partnering with the places kids already play and learn, we get more healthy meals and snacks to kids. “Kids Cafe helps our kids focus more on schoolwork and have more energy,” says Yvonne Avalos, Boys & Girls Club Site Supervisor, “Plus parents are so grateful knowing that their kids will have something good to eat.”
NEW DROP SITE IN CLALLAM COUNTY
Thanks to you, every week our trucks travel to rural areas to deliver nutritious food. These truckloads of food go to regional drop sites, where the food is distributed to member agencies in the area. In January, we added a new drop site at the Port Angeles Food Bank.
“Adding a new drop site in Clallam County makes it easier for our member agencies there to get the food they need,” reports Rosemary Rankins, Agency Relations Manager.
MOBILE FOOD PANTRY EXPANDS
No one likes the idea of seniors skipping meals because they can’t get to the grocery store. But issues of mobility and access to fresh food are a reality for many seniors, especially those in low-income housing.
“We have seen a growing need among seniors,” says Dani Turk, Community Programs Manager, “and we know that these populations are vulnerable to health conditions related to diet.”
We have identified south King County as the location for our first program to specifically serve seniors. Expanding Mobile Food Pantry will get more fresh fruits and veggies to the seniors who need them.
Thanks to TEW Foundation for helping expand this program through their generous grant.
