Intiman’s Black Nativity and Food Lifeline partner to provide hunger relief
This holiday season, during the annual production of Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity, Intiman Theatre and Food Lifeline will partner again to assist people experiencing hunger. The two nonprofit organizations are honored to work together on strengthening the community and raising funds for those experiencing food insecurity. Intiman’s production of Black Nativity recently won the Gregory Award for Outstanding Musical (2024) and features a 30-member cast including singers, dancers, a live band, and a city-wide gospel choir.
Audiences attending Black Nativity are encouraged to donate during the “pass the basket” portion of the show. 50% of what is raised goes to support Food Lifeline. During the 2023 production, Intiman raised $15,000 for Food Lifeline and anticipates even more this year.
Intiman and Food Lifeline kicked off the partnership in November. Members of the cast, creative team, Intiman board, and staff volunteered in the Food Lifeline warehouse. Food Lifeline staff will volunteer as ushers at select performances.
“One of Intiman’s values is to ‘engage our local community,’ and we could not think of a better organization to partner with this holiday season than Food Lifeline. This partnership is built on the spirit of abundance and the idea that we can do more together.”
