Food Lifeline & Partners Assist Local Military Families

Food Lifeline joined with partners, the Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN) and Nourish Pierce County on a special emergency food distribution for active duty military families. The event, the second of three being held, is part of MFAN’s Million Meal Challenge campaign. The challenge recognizes that as many as one in five active duty military households in Washington are facing food insecurity. The distribution on Saturday served 523 military households. The next event will be held on December 11 in Lakewood, Washington.

Each household served received several bags and boxes of food that contained fresh produce, frozen chicken, can & dry goods, and household products. Working alongside many volunteers who helped load vehicles during the drive-thru distribution was State Senator T’wina Nobles (LD-28) and staff from the Congressional offices of Representative Adam Smith (WA-8) and Marilyn Strickland (WA-10). Volunteer groups included The Mission Continues, a military veteran service organization. There were also many individuals volunteering with connections to the military.

The Military Family Advisory Network is the authentic voice of the modern military family and the bridge that connects military families to the resources, people, and information they depend on to successfully navigate all phases of military life.

Nourish Pierce County operates 23 active food bank distribution sites throughout the county. Its mission is: To provide nutritious food and support services to people in need with compassion, dignity and respect.
