Do You Know Where Wahkiakum County is? We do.
When you support Food Lifeline, you are helping neighbors across 17 counties and 44,000 square miles. Regardless of what county you live in, you deserve to have access to the food you need and to feed your family. Each year we review pound for pound where our food goes and challenge ourselves to find new and better ways to reach underserved counties. The great news is this year we partnered with four new amazing agencies to deliver more food to four high-need counties; Grays Harbor, Island, Pacific, and Wahkiakum. Allow us to introduce our four newest member agencies:
Northwest Life Center (Grays Harbor County): On Tuesdays and Fridays in Elma, you’ll find Linda and Troy Green serving community lunches at their meal program, Kings Kitchen. Since partnering with Food Lifeline, they have been able to steadily increase the number of community lunches served. They also shelter and feed up to 20 men each day who are transitioning from a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program.
Whidbey Island Nourishes (Island County): Established in 2007, Whidbey Island Nourishes (WIN) provides healthy and nutritious prepared meals to youth-in-need on South Whidbey. Their collaboration with the school district and Readiness-To-Learn helps identify children and families in need and finds ways to get them the food they need. Last year alone, WIN distributed more than 20,000 meals on this small tip of the island. WIN appreciates the yogurt and fresh fruit and vegetables they receive through Food Lifeline.
Bay Center Food Bank (Pacific County): Though small (under 100 regular clients), this food bank provides a mighty service to hungry people in the community. Michelle and Carl Olson, along with a team of dedicated volunteers, have been operating the food bank for 2 years out of the Bay Center Community Center. Michelle reports, “Being a member agency at Food Lifeline has stepped our food bank up to a new level of service.”
St. Vincent de Paul at St. Catherine’s (Wahkiakum County): As an active member of the Wahkiakum County hunger relief commission; this Cathlamet, WA food bank has seen their client numbers double in the last year. Food Lifeline is excited to be a partner who can help them offer more food each 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month.
