Amazon Fresh Joins the Frenzy

As the sun peaks over the horizon this Friday morning, the Amazon Fresh team rises early to work together on an uplifting community project.

“We’re making snack boxes for kids,” says Amazon’s Sofia Winters.

A large table on the store’s freshly polished concrete floors serves as a makeshift assembly line of healthy snack items that the team is packing into lunchpail-shaped boxes. Soon, the snack boxes will be delivered to Praisealujah, a neighborhood food bank that provides “food without barriers” for those in the community experiencing food insecurity. With this food-centric partnership with Praisealujah, Amazon Fresh can show up holistically.

“It’s really important to us as a business, as a grocer, and as a fixture of the community that we exist in, to support food security,” says Winters.

This early-morning exercise kicks off Amazon Fresh’s first year as a Food Frenzy team. They’re excited to join Food Lifeline’s annual fundraising competition, where companies and businesses compete to raise money and clock volunteer hours to create summer meals for kids and families.

But for the team here at Amazon Fresh, this early morning project is less about scoring volunteer points and more about showing up for others.

“I think part of our job and responsibility as humans is to truly give back to the community, and to give to those who are food insecure,” says Store Manager, Matt Thrush.

This Amazon Fresh team also connects to the Food Lifeline mission in other ways. Every week, the store donates food through Food Lifeline’s Retail and Food Service Partner program.

“We’re making food donations nearly every day to Food Lifeline so that their food bank partners have good, fresh food,” says Winters.

Amazon Fresh’s donations to Food Lifeline last year helped create more than 250,000 meals.

Three cheers to Amazon Fresh, and good luck in Food Frenzy!

Amazon Fresh welcomes its customers to join in this fundraiser. From July 15th  through August 8th, Hunger Heroes tote bags are available for purchase at Amazon Fresh stores in North Seattle (Aurora), South Seattle (Jackson), and Bellevue (Factoria). The purchase of each tote bag provides 10 meals for children and families in our community who experience food insecurity.
