Vashon Maury Community Food Bank Warehouse and Distribution Manager This position manages the Food Bank’s Warehouse and Distribution services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: supervision and coordination of volunteers and PT assistant, purchasing and managing donations and inventory, optimal storage and use of products, set -up and operation of 3x weekly on-site Distributions and 1x week home delivery, monthly statistics and reports as required. Reports to VMCFB Director. 25-35 hours/week . Start date-January 1 or ASAP . Salary DOE. See www.vashonfoodbank.org for job description. Primary Responsibilities- Maintain optimal availability of groceries and essential non-food supplies for weekly distributions and home delivery through knowledge of inventory, placing of weekly grocery orders, facilitating the purchase of food and non-food items from merchants, and managing in-kind donations.
- Carry out weekly Distribution and Home delivery with attention to food safety, nutritional value, and offering a high quality shopping experience. Assure a welcoming atmosphere, respect and confidentiality.
- Assure that Food Bank operates within Public Health guidelines for health and safety.
- Work with Director to operate Warehouse and Distribution within contract provisions.
- Recommend updates and changes in policies and procedures to incorporate best practices within the industry.
- Work closely with Volunteer Manager to orient, train, supervise and affirm volunteers in line with Agency values of respect, appreciation, openness to input, fairness, transparency, clear communication of expectations, reliability and productivity.
- Work with Director to develop annual operating budget for Food Bank Distribution and to operate within approved budget.
- Oversee proactive maintenance of vehicles and FB equipment, conferring with Director on costs.
- Coordinate closely with Farm and Garden Manager on issues related to optimal use of produce for distribution and home delivery, including, product storage and product display.
- Coordinate with Picnics in the Park Coordinator regarding appropriate use of Warehouse inventory and donations for Picnics as well as ordering and purchasing food items.
- Maintain accurate records of in-kind donations and product purchases; complete reports in timely and accurate manner.
- Serve as integral part of agency Management team to plan for and run operations in line with Agency values.
- Participate as exemplary team member, supporting, assisting, coordinating and communicating in professional manner.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients and volunteers. Represent agency positively when working. Demonstrate awareness of potential negative impact of personal behavior on Food Bank.
- Other duties as needed or assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience may be substituted.
- Experience working or volunteering in nonprofits; experience with Food Bank preferred.
- Experience working with volunteers; supervisory experience a plus.
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
- Open to new ideas and innovation.
- Experience and skills working with a broad diversity of people; ability to adapt to different styles and ways of communicating.
- Proven experience working in fast paced multi-faceted position.
- Basic computer skills, including Word and Excel.
- Spanish language skills a plus.
- Ability to safely lift 50+lbs on a regular basis.
