Our Response to this Week’s Announcement of Freezing Federal Loans and Grants
To the Food Lifeline community,
Food Lifeline remains steadfast and unwavering in our commitment to our mission to end hunger. This week’s news of the current administration’s plans to freeze federal grants and loans sparked concern for many nonprofits, including many of our agency partners.
As further policy changes are introduced, Food Lifeline will respond strategically, and factually, and will engage in efforts that preserve and expand resources to benefit our communities.
Our mission and values continue to be the foundation of every action Food Lifeline takes. We believe food is a universal human right and will always work to ensure everyone has access to nutritious, culturally appropriate foods. We continue to build an anti-racist organization dedicated to social justice and food equity.
This past year, our network of 299 agency partners experienced more than 10 million visits, an increase of 2 million visits. Given this economic reality, our advocacy team is hard at work making the legislative case for food access for all, universal school lunches, and solutions that eliminate food waste and positively impact our environment. Please add your voice to these important issues through our advocacy portal. https://foodlifeline.org/advocacy-portal
We will listen to our neighbors and support collective action on the solutions they identify that uplift and nourish people in their communities. We are deeply committed to learning from our ongoing Community Impact Plan research project, and we will include these insights in a five-year strategic plan that will guide our work.
We are grateful for those supporters who have joined the movement to end hunger. We realize it will take all of us working together to rise and meet the challenges ahead.
