KOMO TV is Helping End Food Insecurity
It’s January, so it’s time to tune in to the annual KOMO Food Drive!
From today until the first week of February, join us by donating, volunteering, or using your voice to help Food Lifeline better serve our 300 food bank partners across Western Washington.
KOMO TV morning news anchor Holly Menino is leading the charge again this year, helping to spread the word that Hunger Doesn’t Have to Happen. Throughout the month, Holly will create stories featuring food banks, meal programs, and community partners to raise awareness of food insecurity across the region.
“KOMO is committed to helping feed our community and to raise awareness about food insecurity in Western Washington,” says Holly. “We have seen the need of our neighbors firsthand through the stories told. We look forward to our third year of partnering with Food Lifeline for the KOMO Food Drive. It takes all of us to make a difference, and we hope you will join us!”
KOMO TV is also enlisting the help of two major corporate partners this year. BECU and Optum Care Washington are co-sponsoring this year’s event. Both companies are committed supporters of Food Lifeline’s mission and will unite their communities in this effort. Also on board this year, is the Sunset Auto Family with dealerships in Sumner and Auburn. During the campaign, you can drop off any non-perishable food donations to one of their two locations.
The campaign will culminate with an old-fashioned on-air telethon. On the evening of February 7th, staff at KOMO TV and volunteers from Food Lifeline will join the BECU and Optum Care Washington teams in taking phone calls and donations live on the air!
When you support the KOMO Food Drive, you are powering Food Lifeline’s innovative methods for feeding people today while working to end hunger for tomorrow. Food Lifeline is working to solve hunger by creating programs that serve communities. From Mobile Food distributions to securing culturally relevant foods for and partnering with local farmers and producers to funding community programs, Food Lifeline addresses hunger’s root causes in meaningful and impactful ways.
