Hunger Action Day 2025: A Powerful Day of Advocacy in Olympia

On February 24th, over 220 hunger advocates from across Washington state gathered at the Capitol in Olympia for Hunger Action Day–an inspiring day of storytelling, advocacy, and solidarity. From community members and food bank representatives to anti-hunger coalition leaders, advocates came together to speak with one voice: Food is right, not a privilege.

Organized by the Anti-Hunger & Nutrition Coalition, this annual day of action highlighted the power of personal stories and collective advocacy. Attendees from more than 35 legislative districts participated in 99 meetings with lawmakers, urging them to invest in policies that fight hunger and reduce poverty.

Throughout the day, advocates pushed for bold investments in:

Why It Matters

Aaron Czyzewski, Director of Advocacy & Public Policy at Food Lifeline, shared what the day so meaningful:

“You didn’t wake up this morning just to help yourself–you woke up to help somebody out. That’s what make’s today powerful. You’re not just sharing your story–you’re representing millions of Washingtonians.” – Aaron Czyzewski

The urgency this year was especially high as advocates confronted federal nutrition cuts and state budget shortfalls that directly impact families across the region.
