Hunger Action Month is a Wrap

September was a busy month in the Hunger Solution Center as our partners, volunteers, and supporters came together to take action for Hunger Action Month.

More than 617,000 pounds of food was sorted in the warehouse in September, including pears, apples, kidney beans, dairy, bakery items, corn and potatoes.

1,505 volunteers donated 3,266 hours. They helped sort and repack food for distribution to our agency partners, they helped our agency relations and volunteer engagement teams with administrative projects, they assisted our production team during volunteer sessions and in the Shop the Dock, and they supported our annual fundraising gala.

Nearly $50,000 was raised in support of Hunger Action Month, including Gesa’s generous $25,000 match.

On September 1, more than two dozen community members attended our Food is Medicine Forum, advocating for a stronger food system with staff members from US Senator Patty Murray’s office.

On the 25th anniversary of 9-11,  a day of service was held at Lumen Field. More than 600 volunteers representing 41 companies and organizations packed 263,000 meals for distribution through Food Lifeline’s agency network.

On September 18, more than $400,000 was raised during our fundraising gala, Dress Down Hunger.

On October 29, Hunger Action Day, Gesa Credit Union joined us in the warehouse, helping to sort and repack 8,500 pounds of food, including rice and cabbage.

“Food Lifeline, Second Harvest, and the Clark County Food Bank reach neighbors who often quietly go without food, and partnering with them again reflects how steady this need is,” said Brandon Allison, Gesa VP of Community Impact. “We’re glad our support helps keep meals in the hands of families across the Pacific Northwest, and we’ll keep showing up as the need continues.”

As our Hunger Action Month Presenting Sponsor, Gesa Credit Union always looks forward to engaging our communities and encouraging members and employees to volunteer, donate, and advocate throughout the month.

“Strong community partnerships are essential to addressing hunger, and Gesa Credit Union continues to demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to providing families facing food insecurity access to the food they need,” said Ken Ryals, Chief Development Officer at Food Lifeline. “Their ongoing support strengthens our ability to serve communities across Western Washington, ensuring our network of food banks and meal programs can respond to rising needs with dignity and care. Together, we are creating lasting impact and building a stronger, more food-secure future for our neighbors.”

Thank you, Gesa Credit Union, for your ongoing support of our work and for leading by example.  When everyone takes action against hunger, we move closer to ending hunger in our communities.
