Free School Meals Are Available to More Washington Students
This school year, more than 1,400 schools across Washington are offering free meals to all students, helping more children get the nutritious food they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
Families can check the map below to see what meal options are available at their student’s school.
Your Child May Still Qualify for Free School Meals
Even if your child’s school does not provide free meals to every student, your child may still be eligible for free or reduced-price meals.
Eligibility is based in part on whether your household meets the income guidelines for the 2026–2027 school year. Families can review the current income requirements to find out if they may qualify.
To apply, ask for a school meal application at your child’s school office or use OSPI’s Washington School Meals Application Finder to locate your school district’s online application.
You do not need to be a U.S. citizen to receive school meals. Beginning September 18, 2026, receiving school meals may count toward public charge considerations, so families with questions about how this change could affect their immigration situation should seek trusted, qualified guidance.
School Meal Eligibility Can Unlock Additional Benefits
Qualifying for free school meals can connect students and families with support beyond breakfast and lunch. Students who qualify may be eligible to have certain school expenses waived, including field trip and athletic fees. Eligible students enrolled in free school meals may also receive SUN Bucks, which provides additional money to purchase food during the summer when school meals are less readily available.
Your school may offer even more resources throughout the year, including free afterschool snacks or meals, school food pantries, or weekend “backpack programs” that allow students to bring food home.Families can contact their school office to learn what programs are available and how to participate.
