Fred Meyer and QFC donate $190,000 to Food Lifeline
Fred Meyer and QFC—two Kroger-owned grocery stores—donated $190,000 to Food Lifeline. Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland visited the University Place Fred Meyer on June 27 to present the check. This partnership with Fred Meyer, Quality Food Center, and the Zero Hunger Zero Waste Foundation aims reduce the number of people facing food insecurity and improve access to affordable, fresh food.
“Food insecurity is still at high levels in Western Washington,” said Aaron Czyzewski, Food Lifeline’s Director of Advocacy and Public Policy. “And yet our inventories of donated food or government commodities are near record lows. This infusion of donations is really important. This will help put food on the shelves in local food pantries all across Western Washington.”
The donation will provide 1.9 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to the more than one million people visiting food banks in Western Washington.
“At Fred Meyer and QFC, our purpose is to feed the human spirit,” Fred Meyer and QFC corporate affairs manager Tiffany Sanders said in a statement. “We believe it’s important to provide equitable access to fresh, healthy food for people in our community to live their healthiest lives. This donation helps get more food to people who need it most.”
