CJA Talks About Impact of Hunger, Importance Progresssive Taxation at First Lobby Day

The Community Justice Alliance (CJA) hosted its first-ever Lobby Day on Monday, April 7th, where members came together to amplify their voices and advocate for a more equitable wealth tax through collective power. Participants shared powerful stories and lived experiences, highlighting the devastating impact that harmful budget cuts could have on our social safety net.
Alongside their push for progressive revenue solutions, CJA members also called for increased funding for the Washington Commodities Donation Program. This vital initiative makes it easier to move unsold produce from local farms directly into hunger relief systems through a statewide partnership with Food Lifeline and other organizations. It provides one-time funding to support farmers, growers, producers, and packing houses by reimbursing some of the production costs for food donations. Since its launch, the program has already distributed 4 million pounds of nourishing food into the agency partner network, increasing access for people and communities who have been historically left out.
We urge you to contact your legislators today and ask them to support both an equitable wealth tax and continued funding for the Washington Commodities Donation Program, which is set to end June, 2025. Together, we can build a more just and sustainable future for all.
