Bringing More Food to East Whatcom County

Food Lifeline is now bringing twice as much food to the Foothills region of East Whatcom County. On October 26, 115 households took home groceries from Food Lifeline’s inaugural weekday mobile food pantry distribution. Clients chose from a variety of items like fresh carrots and pears, ground lamb and chicken breasts, eggs, yogurt, cereal, and chicken noodle soup.

Four years in to our mobile food pantry program in Maple Falls, WA, in partnership with the Foothills Food Bank and the Opportunity Council’s East Whatcom Regional Resource Center, we’ve added a second monthly mobile food pantry

distribution on the fourth Thursday of every month. Adding a Thursday morning distribution will get more food to the people who need it, whether they are current clients of the mobile food pantry on the 2nd Saturday of every month or folks whose schedules have prevented them from being able to access the program before. Having more food at the end of the month is particularly helpful, as that’s when people’s SNAP and other benefits tend to run out.
