THE NUMBERS ARE IN

Washingtonians are struggling to feed their families. One in nine, (or 11.1%) of Washington’s households are “food insecure,” meaning they lack the resources to ensure that all family members will not go hungry, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s latest report on food security. This includes 4.3% who have “very low food security,” meaning at least one family member has gone hungry due to a lack of resources for food.

Food Lifeline, with your support, works diligently and quickly to get food to those individuals experiencing any level of food insecurity. The number of Washington households which are food insecure rose from 255,000 in 2007 to 288,000 in 2008. This 13% increase (33,000 people) is equivalent to the population of Bothell, WA. Nationally, 22.5% of American children live in households experiencing food insecurity. It is our mission to end hunger in Western Washington, and as the number of children and individuals visiting our member agencies continues to grow, your support is needed now more than ever. The winter months prove to be extremely difficult as families are forced to choose between things like paying to heat their home or feed their family. Choose to help. Donate now and provide hope for individuals in need this holiday season.
