THERE ARE JUST A FEW DAYS LEFT!

IN THE 2010 STATE LEGISLATIVE SESSION

Thursday, March 11 is the last day of the 2010 State Legislative Session. These next few days are a key decision-making time and legislators want your input while making these vital choices. Currently, there are many important programs at stake in the budget. Now is the time to let your lawmaker know that these programs are a priority.

What programs are at stake?

The following programs are at risk of being cut:

  • Washington Grown Fruits and Veggies program: This program brings healthy, local produce snacks to students in low-income schools; cutting it would endanger the health and education of these students.
  • Senior Meals: The Senior Citizens Services Act funds help provide meal assistance for seniors who often struggle with limited income and mobility. These cuts would jeopardize senior citizens’ access to nutritious meals.
  • Working Connections Child Care: This program provides child care assistance for working families. Cuts to the program would make it even more difficult for low-income parents to provide for their families’ basic needs.

What can be done at this point?

By adding new sources of revenue it is possible to balance the budget without cutting these essential programs. Your legislators need to hear that YOU support adding new revenue to save key programs from harmful cuts.

Call the Legislative Hotline at 1-800-562-6000. It only takes a minute to leave a message for all of your legislators and ensure that services that support low income families are available when they are needed most.

Sample Message: Please support new sources of revenue so that funding can be preserved for the Washington Grown Fruits and Veggies program, Senior Meals, and Working Connections Child Care. These programs are needed now more than ever.

Call NOW. Don’t let the legislative session end without your input!
